| In the Roman age it was a minor centre, known Sena, Siena was the capital of the meridional part of Tuscany for ages. The city had its best time between the end of the 1200 and the middle of 1400, basing its economy on commercial and banking activity, also due to the proximity of Rome. Today, the city is famous for districts (contrade) and Palio. |
